We are EDUCATED HERMANAZ!

A.K.A. Marianita y Melanie Montoya, an inseparable Mexican-American sister duo from Los Angeles, California.

We intend to:

Redefine Empowerment and sisterhood.

Expanding: Opportunities by creating actionable solutions that can allow for more resources within our ever-growing community.

.

Discover New spaces where we can expand our message, and continue exploring our voices.

By accomplishing our goals we hope to:

  • Provide a safe space within our platforms for Latinas to feel identified, and inspired to continue working on themselves.

  • Educate people who may not understand our cultural landscape or point of view.

But REALLY, Educated Hermanaz came about in 2019 in our small shared room at our parent's house. Initially named Educated Humanz, after I (Melanie) returned home from college. Lost. Confused. Jobless.

Eventually, with a box of chips, late nights of pondering, and multiple volunteer trips to an influencer house in Venice, Ca our lives changed. We found our purpose- Educated Hermanaz.

Originally we designed our instagram to educate our peers about the Mexican American culture that was already existent in LA. Our signature move, offer tamales and allow our friends to indulge in a small significant piece of our identity.

March 2020, the pandemic began to surge, and as the months continued to pass we found ourselves in depression. We had no idea what to do. In our darkest moments, we noticed students were concurrently struggling and affected by COVID-19.

We decided to fundraise money for our first scholarship named the EHz scholarship through a virtual concert.

The experience taught us that redefining our image and continuing to hone our identity can only lead to bigger and better things.

Suma Wealth entered our lives unexpectedly through some Matcha Corn Tamales. Though Mariana & I are not financial experts, we see the generational Wealth Gap among Latinx and our white counterparts continue to grow. We want to be part of the conversation where we are taking action by raising awareness for our people.

Fast forward to 2021 and another difficult year! We decided to challenge ourselves by overcoming our fears, while fundraising our 2nd scholarship.

Ultimate we raised $5k with the help of Acevedo Foundation. The scholarship was awarded to the Mujerista Collective who redistributed the $5k into the community of underrepresented artists through a zine. Their work will be showcased in a gallery in New. York.
